Our wines

We are a boutique wine producer, only making between 400 and 700 cases annually for our own label. We don't always make every variety every year. If we sell out of a particular variety, we will indicate that on our Order Form.

Most of Scotts Brook's 100 tonnes of grapes are sold under contract. From 2001, this contract was with Evans & Tate, but since 2008 with McWilliams, following their purchase of the Evans & Tate wine stocks and label.

With such a small quantity for our own label, we have our wine made under contract by a professional winemaker. Since 2004, this service has been provided by Vasse River Wines. Talented winemaker, Sharna Kowalczuk, is happy for us to also employ a consultant. For 2005 and 2006, this was John Durham and since 2007, our consultant has been Richard Rowe. As the ex-chief winemaker of Evans & Tate, Richard is undoubtedly one of the most experienced and talented winemakers in the country. We are very happy to have him as part of our team—he offers that next elusive dimension.

The wines we make

The vineyard

Our 15ha vineyard was first planted in 1987, and the first commercial vintage was produced in 1991.

Great wines are made from well-managed, low-yielding, intensely-flavoured fruit, so we keep our yields between six and seven tonnes per hectare. Our soils are gravelly loam, well-drained, and our temperature range is at the high end of the cool climate classification—a perfect combination for growing outstanding quality wine grapes. The wines produced by Scotts Brook, including a number of Gold Medal awards, bear testament to this.
